New Delhi: Ircon International Limited (IRCON), a leading infrastructure Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Railways, has been awarded a significant contract worth Rs 253.56 crore by the South Western Railway of Indian Railways, for the deployment of the indigenous train collision avoidance (KAVACH) system across key railway divisions.

According to a stock exchange filing made by the company on Tuesday, the scope of the contract involves the survey, design, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of KAVACH equipment along with associated works over 778 route kilometers (RKM) spanning the Bengaluru and Mysuru Divisions of South Western Railway.

The contract, classified as a domestic works contract, is to be executed within 18 months from the date of issue of the Letter of Acceptance (LOA). Ircon stated that the contract does not involve any related party transactions and that neither the promoter nor group companies hold any interest in the awarding entity.

KAVACH is an indigenously developed Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system aimed at enhancing operational safety by preventing collisions and ensuring speed regulation. The Indian Railways has been steadily expanding its deployment to modernize rail safety infrastructure.
