MRPL reports fire after rupture of high-pressure cold separator at Coker Hydrotreater Unit

New Delhi: Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) reported a fire at its refinery following a rupture of the Cold Separator operating at high pressure in the Coker Hydrotreater Unit around noon on Wednesday.

MRPL said the battery limits of the affected unit were immediately isolated, while its emergency response and firefighting teams were deployed to control the incident. The fire has since been brought under control, although firefighting operations may continue for some time as part of the safe handling of the situation.

The company said no major injuries have been reported. One person sustained a minor injury and was shifted to a hospital. The person is out of danger and is receiving necessary medical attention, MRPL said.

The situation is being closely monitored, with the safety of personnel and the refinery facility being accorded the highest priority.

MRPL said further verified information would be shared as it becomes available. The company also said there was no reason for panic among individuals within or outside the MRPL premises.
