MTNL fined Rs 15 lakh by TRAI for quality of service violations

New Delhi: State-owned Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) has been imposed a financial disincentive of Rs 15 lakh by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) for contravention of quality of service regulations governing broadband services.

MTNL said it received the TRAI order dated September 24, 2026, imposing the financial disincentive for violations of Regulations 9 and 10 of the Standards of Quality of Service of Access (Wireline and Wireless) and Broadband (Wireline and Wireless) Service Regulations, 2024.

The violations relate to MTNL’s Broadband (Wireline) Service for the quarter ended March 2026.

According to the company’s regulatory filing, the total penalty imposed by TRAI is Rs 15 lakh. MTNL has also stated that there is no material impact on its financial, operational or other activities from the penalty.
