NABARD, IMD sign MoU to provide weather updates to farmers through DiCRA

New Delhi: National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) and India Meteorological Department (IMD) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to integrate IMD’s agro-meteorological data products into Data in Climate Resilient Agriculture (DiCRA), an open-source digital platform supported by UNDP and NABARD.

The partnership aims to make weather information freely accessible to farmers, financial institutions, policymakers and researchers across India. Under the MoU, IMD will provide district- and block-level weather forecasts, agromet advisories, in-situ observations and weather alerts through DiCRA.

The weather data will be integrated into a dedicated Weather Portal on DiCRA, alongside geospatial information on soil moisture, vegetation health, crop conditions and climate vulnerability. The integration is intended to provide decision-ready weather and climate insights at district and block levels.

NABARD will use DiCRA’s open APIs and data infrastructure to deliver IMD’s agromet products in actionable formats through its web portal, mobile interface and API integrations. The platform will also provide district-level advisories, seasonal risk alerts and weather-linked vulnerability assessments for farmers, researchers, policymakers, credit officers and field personnel.

NABARD Chairman Shaji Krishnan V. said the partnership would help convert available climate information into timely action by combining IMD’s scientific capabilities with NABARD’s rural institutional reach. IMD Director General of Meteorology Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said the collaboration would help bridge the last mile in delivering increasingly accurate weather forecasts to farmers in a timely and usable form.

The MoU has been signed by NABARD Chief General Manager Sanjeev D. Rohilla and IMD Scientist-G and Head, RMC Mumbai, Bikram Singh, in the presence of senior officials from both organisations.
