NHPC posts record monthly generation of 4,695.74 MU in August after Teesta-V restoration

New Delhi: State-run NHPC Limited generated 4,695.74 million units (MU) of electricity in August, its highest for any month, according to a statement issued on Thursday. The figure is 217.32 MU above the company's previous record of 4,478.42 MU, set in July, putting record months back to back.

Bhupender Gupta, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of NHPC, said the result "reflects the dedication, teamwork and technical excellence of our employees across NHPC's power stations and projects." He said it "reaffirms our commitment to operational excellence, timely project execution, asset reliability and sustainable power generation."

Three additions behind the record

NHPC attributed the generation to three capacity events. The 800 MW Parbati-II hydroelectric project was commissioned, 1,000 MW was added at the Subansiri Lower project, and the 510 MW Teesta-V power station was restored in July.

The Subansiri Lower addition came in two parts, with 750 MW in FY 2025-26 and a further 250 MW in May. The project is designed for 2,000 MW in total.

Teesta-V back after nearly three years

Teesta-V had been out of service since the October 2023 flash floods in Sikkim. Its third and final 170 MW unit was synchronised with the national grid on July 15, with full-load testing completed the following day, returning the station to its full 510 MW.

NHPC's operational installed capacity now stands at 7,651 MW, comprising 7,251 MW of hydro, 350 MW of solar and 50 MW of wind. The statement said the additions allow the company to maximise generation during the current high inflow season.
