No single energy transition path can suit all countries: Khattar at G20 Energy Meet

Houston: Power Minister Manohar Lal has called for a practical, technology-neutral approach to the global energy transition, saying countries must be able to choose pathways suited to their resources, energy needs and development priorities.

Speaking after the second day of the G20 Energy Ministerial Meeting on Tuesday, Lal said reliable and affordable energy must remain central to the transition.

“Every country has different resources, needs and development priorities. Therefore, there cannot be one energy path for all,” he said, according to a statement issued after the meeting.

Energy security and affordability in focus

Lal, who also holds the housing and urban affairs portfolio, outlined India’s efforts to balance economic expansion with clean energy goals.

He said the country was accelerating renewable energy integration, expanding transmission infrastructure and scaling up energy storage. Regulatory processes were also being simplified to make project approvals more predictable and efficient.

“Our direction is clear — secure, affordable and reliable energy for our people, while building a sustainable future,” he said.

Tuesday’s discussions centred on two priorities of the US G20 presidency: ensuring energy security and affordable baseload power, and making regulatory approvals faster and simpler.

India seeks stronger critical mineral supply chains

Critical minerals will be the focus of Wednesday’s concluding deliberations, Lal said.

India will advocate secure and diversified supply chains, alongside greater local processing, recycling and value addition, particularly in developing countries.

During his Houston visit, the minister also toured NASA’s Johnson Space Center to review developments in space technology. He praised the Indian-American community for its contribution to local society and its continued cultural ties with India.
