Performance of markets worldwide

Stocks showed little movement on Friday, with the exception of Japan, where there were notable gains, while the artificial intelligence sector took a pause. At the same time, there was a sense of urgency surrounding high-stakes negotiations to prevent a US debt default. In thin trading due to a holiday in Hong Kong, MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares, excluding Japan, edged up 0.3 percent. However, the index was down 1.6 percent for the week.

On the other hand, Japan's Nikkei index climbed 0.7 percent, benefiting from foreign investments and positive news regarding US chipmaker Nvidia's revenue and production upgrades. This development has led to a significant increase in the stock prices of Japanese companies with exposure to Nvidia. With a seventh consecutive weekly gain, the Nikkei has experienced its longest winning streak in five years, resulting in a remarkable USD 460 billion surge in Japanese stocks.
