New Delhi: NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of NTPC Limited, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Honeywell UOP India Pvt Ltd to explore the production of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), marking a major step toward decarbonizing India’s aviation sector.
The MoU has been formally exchanged between NTPC's Executive Director (Hydrogen) DMR Panda and Honeywell UOP's Vice President & General Manager (ESS) Ranjit Kulkarni on April 25.
Under the agreement, both parties will jointly conduct a feasibility study for SAF production using Honeywell’s proprietary eFining™ technology. The study will focus on utilizing captured carbon dioxide emissions from NTPC’s power plants and green hydrogen produced as part of NTPC’s ongoing renewable initiatives.
This collaboration is a significant component of NTPC Green’s ambitious Green Hydrogen Hub project at Pudimadaka in Andhra Pradesh. Spanning approximately 1,200 acres, the hub is envisioned as a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to green chemicals and sustainable manufacturing.
“The partnership with Honeywell UOP leverages cutting-edge technology and aligns with NTPC’s vision of achieving a 60 GW renewable energy portfolio by 2032,” the company said in an official statement.
The collaboration combines Honeywell’s global expertise in SAF production with NTPC’s leadership in renewable energy and green hydrogen projects. It reflects NTPC’s continued efforts to support India’s green energy transition and underscores the growing role of innovative partnerships in building a low-carbon economy.
This initiative also strengthens India’s position in the global drive toward clean aviation fuel alternatives, offering a potential path to reducing the aviation industry's carbon footprint while fostering indigenous technological and industrial development.
