New Delhi/Odisha: NTPC Talcher Kaniha, in partnership with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) 3rd Battalion, Mundali, Cuttack, successfully concluded a two‑day Disaster Management Planning workshop held from August 6 to August 7. The program was a part of NTPC’s proactive efforts in enhancing safety preparedness and community resilience.
The workshop was inaugurated by Executive Director (Talcher Kaniha) K. Narasimbha Reddy, who stressed the critical importance of disaster preparedness for both plant safety and nearby communities. Approximately 95 participants attended, including NTPC officials across various levels, alongside personnel from the CISF Fire Wing and security units.
Over the course of two days, the NDRF team delivered interactive training sessions on a wide array of emergency scenarios—ranging from cyclone and flood preparedness, lightning safety, first aid and CPR (for both adults and infants), to evacuation techniques during building collapses or earthquakes, and managing hazards such as snake and dog bites. One of the workshop’s key highlights was the live demonstration of improvised life‑saving devices under emergency conditions.
The program’s centerpiece was a mock drill simulating a Hydrochloric Acid (HCl) leakage from a storage tank. Executed in coordination with NDRF and CISF, the drill showcased a meticulously orchestrated response, featuring the rapid deployment of ambulance and fire services and efficient rescue operations, earning commendation from all stakeholders.
The workshop concluded on a high note, with participants lauding the practical approach of the sessions and recognizing the value of sustained collaboration with the NDRF to bolster NTPC’s safety‑first culture. The initiative reaffirms NTPC’s commitment to continual improvement in disaster readiness and operational resilience.
