The discovery was made in the shallow offshore Discovered Small Field (DSF) block KG-DSF/GSKW/2018, where OIL is operating as the sole operator.
The company drilled the Godavari-1 well as an appraisal well in the block. Hydrocarbons were encountered in a selected pay zone at a depth of 2,024 metres to 2,027 metres.
Production testing of the zone began on October 16, resulting in natural gas flowing to the surface at a rate of around 1 lakh standard cubic metres per day (SCMD). The maximum flow rate achieved during continuous testing was 2 lakh SCMD.

The testing also recorded condensate production of approximately 170 barrels per day (bopd), with an API gravity of 55.8 at 60 degrees Fahrenheit. The wellhead pressure was recorded at 1,815 psi.
OIL said preparations were underway to test the next higher-up zone in the well.
The discovery adds to the company's exploration activities in the KG Basin, a key hydrocarbon-producing region on India's eastern offshore coast.
