OIL signs MoU with MCD to set up CBG plants that will use 800 TPD of Delhi's organic waste

New Delhi: Oil India Limited (OIL) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to establish compressed bio-gas (CBG) plants based on segregated organic municipal solid waste in the capital, the company said in a statement on July 30. OIL is a Maharatna central public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.

Two plants planned, processing 800 tonnes of waste a day

The MoU sets up a framework for cooperation between the two to develop CBG plants, OIL said. As a first step, two plants of 500 tonnes per day (TPD) and 300 TPD capacity are being planned, drawing on segregated organic municipal solid waste generated within Delhi. OIL said the two plants — with a combined waste-processing capacity of 800 TPD — would produce 30 to 32 TPD of compressed biogas.

MoU signed in the presence of Delhi Chief Minister and Mayor

The MoU was signed on July 30 in the presence of Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Delhi Mayor Pravesh Wahi, along with senior officials from the government of Delhi, MCD and OIL, according to the statement.

Initiative aimed at converting waste to green fuel: OIL

OIL said the initiative aims to convert biodegradable waste into "renewable green fuel," reducing dependence on landfills, improving urban sanitation and lowering greenhouse gas emissions. The company linked the tie-up to its plans to expand its waste-to-energy portfolio and to national programmes including the Swachh Bharat Mission, SATAT, the government's scheme to promote CBG as a transport fuel, and Net Zero.
