OMC’s Daitari and Kodingamali mines receive 5-star rating by Indian Bureau of Mines

New Delhi: In a significant recognition of excellence in sustainable and responsible mining, Odisha Mining Corporation’s (OMC) Daitari Iron Ore Mines and Kodingamali Bauxite Mines have been awarded the coveted “5 Star Rating” by the Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM) for the financial year 2023–24.

The awards have been conferred by the Union Minister of Coal and Mines G Kishan Reddy, at a formal ceremony held in Jaipur, Rajasthan, on July 7, as part of IBM's annual star rating awards programme.

The Daitari and Kodingamali mines stood out for their exemplary achievements in scientific mine planning, robust environmental management, progressive mining operations, and impactful community development initiatives. Both mining units have adopted international best practices to ensure minimal ecological disruption while contributing to the socio-economic upliftment of local communities through a range of welfare programmes.

The 5 Star Rating Award, instituted by the Ministry of Mines, Government of India, represents the highest honour under IBM’s Star Rating System. It recognises mining leases that demonstrate outstanding performance in systematic and scientific mining, environmental sustainability, adoption of global standards, and stakeholder engagement.

OMC has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable mining by driving its other operational units toward achieving similar standards of excellence. The corporation continues to focus on responsible resource extraction, environmental conservation, and inclusive development as it strengthens Odisha’s position in the national mining and industrial landscape.
