
New Delhi: Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL), a Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Power, has announced the successful commissioning of a key communication infrastructure project under its Master Communication Plan.
The project, titled “Establishment of Fibre Optic Communication System in Western Region (Additional Requirement)”, has been declared commercially operational with effect from May 17, 2025. The Notification for Commercial Operation (DOCO) was confirmed via official communication on June 6, 2025.
This information has been shared by the power giant in a regulatory filing to the stock exchanges on Friday.
The commissioning of this project marks another milestone in Power Grid’s efforts to strengthen the communication backbone of India’s mobile communications. The Fibre Optic Communication System will support reliable and efficient communication across the Western Region.
Power Grid is in Telecom business through its wholly owned subsidiary -POWERGRID Teleservices Limited with its brand name PowerTel which is the only Telecom Service Provider in the country having pan India overhead Optic fiber network using Optical Ground Wire on power transmission lines and is offering transmission towers for Mobile Communications.
Power Grid continues to play a pivotal role in developing India’s power infrastructure and digital connectivity, in line with the government’s vision for a robust and technologically advanced national grid.
