Proposal for re-bidding of 20 GWh of ACC battery under PLI approved: Minister

New Delhi: “The proposal for re-bidding of the balance 20 GWh out of 50 GWh, has been approved, in-principle by the competent authority. Before re-bidding, stakeholder consultations are being carried out,” said Minister of State (MoS) for Heavy Industies Krishan Pal Gurjar on Tuesday. In a written response to a question raised in the Rajya Sabha, Gurjar added that the government does not plan on expanding the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme beyond 50 GWh.

“No Sir. There is no plan to expand the PLI Scheme beyond 50 GWh. However, more companies may participate in re-bidding of balance 20 GWh,” said the minister.

ACC battery PLI scheme

Quoting a report prepared by the NITI Aayog, the minister said that the likely demand of ACC in India on a conservative basis is estimated to be 106 GWh, while on an accelerated basis, it is likely to be 260 GWh by 2030. “India is expected to be one of the largest markets for energy storage by 2030. The scheme envisages to enhance India’s manufacturing capabilities of Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) by setting up of Giga scale ACC and battery manufacturing facilities in India with emphasis on maximum domestic value addition. This scheme will promote Make in India initiative,” said the minister.
