New Delhi: Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Electronics and IT, Rajeev Chandrasekhar is set to deliver a keynote address at Digital India Dialogues session in Bengaluru, focusing on the recently revised production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme for IT hardware. The session, scheduled to take place in Bengaluru, will witness the participation of key stakeholders from the tech ecosystem, including industry experts, representatives of industry associations, and startup representatives.

Govt approved PLI 2.0 scheme for IT hardware, allocating a budget of Rs 17,000 cr

Last month, the government approved the PLI 2.0 scheme for IT hardware, allocating a budget of Rs 17,000 crore. This enhanced budget represents a significant increase compared to the initial scheme cleared in 2021. The primary objective of the PLI scheme is to promote domestic manufacturing in the IT hardware sector by attracting substantial investments throughout the value chain. The revised scheme will be implemented from July 1 and will set a maximum cap on incentives available to participating companies.

Financial incentives

Through financial incentives, the government aims to stimulate the localisation of IT hardware components and sub-assemblies, leading to increased production within the country. The scope of the scheme encompasses laptops, tablets, all-in-one PCs, servers, and ultra-small form factor devices.

PLI scheme is projected to drive total production value of approx Rs 3.35 lakh cr

The PLI scheme is projected to drive a total production value of approximately Rs 3.35 lakh crore, facilitating an additional investment of Rs 2,430 crore in the electronics manufacturing sector. Furthermore, it is anticipated to generate approximately 75,000 additional direct job opportunities.

These consultations align with the consultative approach of Prime Minister Narendra Modi towards law and policymaking. Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar will be arriving in Bengaluru this evening to participate in the session, reflecting the government's commitment to engaging with stakeholders and ensuring effective policy implementation in the rapidly evolving IT hardware industry.
