New Delhi: Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers Ltd (RCF) has achieved a significant milestone by selling 13,286 tonnes of its sulphur-coated urea product, branded as 'Urea Gold,' across seven states since the commencement of its commercial production earlier this year. This information was shared in Parliament on Friday.
'Urea Gold,' which contains 17 percent sulphur and 37 percent nitrogen, received approval for launch from the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) in June 2023. According to Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilisers Anupriya Patel, "Since the commencement of commercial production of sulphur-coated urea (Urea Gold) during the 2023-24 fiscal at the RCF Trombay plant, the company has dispatched 13,844 tonnes and sold 13,286 tonnes across seven states to date."
The minister noted that all urea manufacturing companies were encouraged to explore the feasibility of producing sulphur-coated urea. Following this directive, RCF’s Trombay unit initiated production of 'Urea Gold.'
To promote the adoption of this innovative fertiliser, RCF has been actively engaging with farmers through meetings, training programmes, and collaborations with Krishi Vigyan Kendras and agricultural universities. These initiatives aim to enhance awareness about the benefits of 'Urea Gold.'
Highlighting the advantages of sulphur-coated urea, the Minister stated that it offers better nitrogen use efficiency compared to neem-coated urea. Additionally, it helps reduce water pollution and salt index, prevents soil compaction, and improves crop quality and yield.
The launch of 'Urea Gold' is a strategic step towards sustainable agriculture, addressing key challenges in fertiliser efficiency and environmental impact.
