REC’s leadership position is the outcome of a structured approach initiated under the guidance of its Board of Directors, beginning with the formulation of its first ESG policy three years ago. The policy laid the foundation for REC’s long-term sustainability vision and systematic alignment with global ESG standards.

According to the company, several key initiatives contributed to the top-tier rating:

Strategic ESG Planning: Mapping and benchmarking ESG action points against global best practices, and active engagement with leading international frameworks such as the Climate Disclosure Project (CDP), S&P Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) and MSCI.

Net-Zero Roadmap: Advancing work on a detailed Net-Zero pathway and action plan as part of its long-term climate strategy.

Operational Excellence: Achieving 100 percent green power usage and developing a zero-discharge corporate office, alongside transitioning a major portion of its office vehicle fleet to electric vehicles. REC’s corporate headquarters has been certified as a GRIHA 5-star rated green building. The company has also strengthened HR, ethics, safety, and cybersecurity policies, including mandatory training on Human Rights, Ethics, Health & Safety, Cyber Security and MCA’s NGRBC Principles.

Enhanced Transparency: Significant improvements in ESG disclosures through its Business Responsibility and Sustainability Report (BRSR) and publication of its second GRI-referenced ESG Report for FY 2024–25.

Leadership-Driven Culture: Strong and consistent backing from the senior management to deepen ESG integration across the organisation.

Commenting on the achievement, REC Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Jitendra Srivastava said the rating affirms the company’s strategic direction. “This milestone affirms our strategic direction—from the inception of our policies and Net-Zero planning to the enhancement of our disclosures within the GRI framework. This achievement significantly underscores our steadfast dedication to advancing the Government of India’s ambitious Panchamrit goals, demonstrating that responsible business practices are integral to our success,” he said.
