The agreement, signed on April 6, builds on earlier discussions held during India Maritime Week 2025, where multiple partnerships were forged to boost India’s maritime ecosystem. The collaboration aims to bring global expertise into India’s training framework and strengthen the country’s pool of skilled maritime professionals.

As part of the MoU, the two organisations will jointly focus on maritime training programmes, research initiatives, and structured knowledge exchange. A key highlight of the partnership is the introduction of a Diploma in Nautical Studies programme at the Maritime Training Institute (MTI), Powai, which is designed to prepare cadets for the operational, safety, and regulatory requirements of modern shipping.

The initiative is expected to align Indian maritime training standards with global best practices, leveraging Synergy Marine’s international experience in ship management and crew training. The programme will equip cadets with practical exposure and industry-relevant competencies, addressing the growing demand for skilled seafarers in a rapidly evolving global shipping industry.

SCILAL, a Government of India enterprise under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, stated that the partnership reflects its commitment to strengthening India’s maritime capabilities through international collaboration and capacity building.
