New Delhi: South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited (CIL), has inaugurated its first fully women-operated Central Store Unit at the Central Workshop in Korba, marking a significant step towards promoting women’s leadership in the industrial sector. The initiative, launched under the Government of India’s Special Campaign 5.0, underscores SECL’s commitment to “Nari Shakti se Rashtra Shakti” and builds upon its earlier milestone of setting up Coal India’s first all-women-operated dispensary at Bilaspur.

The newly inaugurated Central Store Unit will be wholly managed by a team of eight women officers and staff, led by Senior Manager (E&M) Sapna Ikka, and will oversee spare parts supply and inventory operations. Equipped with a modern SAP-based digital platform, the facility aims to ensure efficient and transparent record management.
The inauguration ceremony began with the traditional lamp-lighting ritual, followed by ribbon-cutting by SECL Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) Harish Duhan. The event was attended by SECL Director (Technical/Operations) N Franklin Jaykumar, Director (HR) Biranchi Das, Director (Technical/Planning & Projects) RC Mahapatra, and Chief Vigilance Officer Himanshu Jain. Outstanding women employees of the workshop were also felicitated on the occasion.
Speaking at the event, Duhan said the launch of the all-women Central Store Unit signifies a progressive step towards inclusive growth within Coal India. “Following the success of the women-operated dispensary at Bilaspur, we are proud to see women leading a core operational unit at Korba. This initiative reflects the vision of Union Minister of Coal, Shri G. Kishan Reddy, who has been advocating enhanced participation and leadership of women in the coal sector,” he noted.
The establishment of SECL’s all-women Central Store Unit is seen as another milestone in Coal India’s journey toward gender-inclusive and self-reliant industrial operations, in line with the spirit of Atmanirbhar Bharat, coal PSU stated.
