SECL reviews workplace safety roadmap at Bipartite Safety Committee meeting

New Delhi: South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) on Wednesday held the 62nd Company-Level Bipartite Safety Committee Meeting at its headquarters in Bilaspur, where management and workers' representatives reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening workplace safety and achieving the goal of zero accidents.

During the meeting, officials and workers' representatives took the pledge of "Safety First, Prosperity Through Safety", reiterating their resolve to further strengthen the company's safety culture. The Bipartite Safety Committee is SECL's highest forum for dialogue between the management and workers' representatives on occupational safety matters.

The meeting was chaired by Director (Technical/Operations) N. Franklin Jayakumar in the presence of Director (Technical/Planning & Projects) Ramesh Chandra Mohapatra. General Managers of all operational areas, heads of departments, members of the Bipartite Safety Committee and representatives of various trade unions also participated. The programme began with a welcome address by General Manager (Safety & Rescue) Prakash Rai.

Administering the safety pledge, Jayakumar said that a strong safety culture is built not only through compliance with rules but also through the awareness, discipline and responsibility of every employee. He urged all stakeholders to accord the highest priority to safety and work collectively towards the objective of zero accidents.

Addressing the gathering, Mohapatra said a safe and productive work environment could be ensured through the adoption of modern technologies, continuous training and active participation of all stakeholders. He stressed the importance of strict adherence to safety standards and their continuous improvement.

The committee reviewed SECL's current safety performance, ongoing safety initiatives across its operational areas and the roadmap for further strengthening workplace safety. Representatives of various trade unions also shared suggestions, while detailed discussions were held on risk mitigation, improved coordination and measures to enhance safety awareness across mining operations.

On the occasion, members of the committee congratulated Jayakumar on his appointment as Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL). The committee also extended its best wishes to Bipartite Safety Committee member and SCKMC representative Kamlesh Sharma on his superannuation, acknowledging his long and dedicated service.
