

New Delhi: SJVN Limited's Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) Bhupender Gupta conducted a site visit to the 900 MW Arun-3 Hydro Electric Project in Nepal to assess the progress of one of the most strategically significant cross-border clean energy ventures between India and Nepal. He was accompanied by Ajay Kumar Sharma, Director (Personnel), underscoring the company’s commitment to expediting project execution and strengthening regional energy cooperation.
During the visit, the delegation carried out a detailed review of key construction activities across major project sites. At Phaksinda, the CMD inspected the dam site and directed the project team to ensure strict adherence to safety protocols, quality benchmarks, and timely completion. He highlighted the critical role of the Arun-3 project in bolstering regional clean energy supply and addressing future power requirements.
The SJVN leadership later visited the powerhouse and associated infrastructure at Pukhuwa, where project officials briefed them on recent achievements, site-specific challenges arising from the Himalayan terrain and weather conditions, and the mitigation strategies being deployed to maintain steady progress. Gupta appreciated the dedication and coordinated efforts of engineers and workers operating in demanding environments and called for continued focus on completing pending milestones.
Reaffirming Arun-3 as a flagship clean energy project, the CMD said its commissioning would significantly contribute to energy security and economic development in both India and Nepal. The 900 MW of renewable power generated from the project is expected to enhance regional energy integration and promote environmentally sustainable growth.
Director (Personnel) Ajay Kumar Sharma commended the workforce for their commitment in difficult geographical and climatic conditions and urged the team to maintain high standards of safety, discipline, and teamwork. He encouraged personnel to continue working with determination to meet construction schedules.
The 900 MW Arun-3 Hydro Electric Project is being developed by SJVN in the Sankhuwasabha district of Nepal through its wholly-owned subsidiary, SJVN Arun-3 Power Development Company Pvt. Ltd. Upon commissioning, the project will supply 900 MW of clean energy and play a key role in meeting growing power demand and fostering long-term India-Nepal energy cooperation.
