
New Delhi: In a major development aimed at fast-tracking hydroelectric power generation in Arunachal Pradesh, SJVN Limited has released Rs 269.97 crore as land compensation for the 3097 MW Etalin Hydro Electric Project located in the Dibang Valley district.
The announcement was made during a high-level review meeting chaired by the Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh Pema Khandu, held at Tawang. During the meeting, SJVN’s Chairman & Managing Director (Additional Charge), Raj Kumar Chaudhary, informed that the compensation amount was deposited in the joint account of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and District Land Revenue & Settlement Officer (DLRSO), Dibang Valley on March 26, 2025.
Senior dignitaries present at the meeting included Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, Chief Secretary Manish Kumar Gupta, Power Commissioner Sonam Chombay, Advisor to the Government of Arunachal Pradesh HK Paliwal, Secretary (Land Management) AK Singh, along with other senior officials from the state government and SJVN.
Appreciating the initiative, Chief Minister Pema Khandu lauded the collaborative approach between the state and SJVN, and assured full support from the government in securing timely clearances to facilitate the project's sustainable development.
“SJVN is committed to the inclusive development of Arunachal Pradesh. The release of this compensation amount is a major step in honouring the rights of local communities while ensuring infrastructural growth of the nation,” Raj Kumar Chaudhary said during the meeting.
SJVN had signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the Government of Arunachal Pradesh on August 12, 2023, for the development of the 3097 MW Etalin Hydro Electric Project, along with four other hydro projects. Together, these five projects have a combined generation capacity of 5097 MW and are expected to attract an estimated investment of Rs 60,000 crore. All five projects are located in the Dibang Valley district.
The Etalin project, once completed, will include the construction of two dams — one on the Dri River and another on the Talo (Tangon) River — along with an underground powerhouse complex. The project is targeted for commissioning by December 2033.
The release of the compensation marks a crucial milestone in the progress of the Etalin Hydro Electric Project, reinforcing SJVN’s commitment to clean energy and regional development.
