New Delhi: SJVN Limited on Monday said that it’s Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station (NJHPS) has achieved a historic milestone of 150 billion units (BU) of cumulative power generation.

Congratulating the team on the achievement, SJVN Chairman and Managing Director Bhupender Gupta said the milestone reflects the station’s consistent operational excellence since its commissioning in May 2004.

The milestone was marked with celebrations at the power house in the presence of CMD Bhupender Gupta and Director (Personnel) Ajay Kumar Sharma, along with senior officials of the company.

Speaking on the occasion, Gupta said NJHPS has emerged as a cornerstone of the northern power grid by delivering reliable green energy and supporting grid stability during peak demand periods.

Highlighting the project’s operational achievements, he said the station recorded its highest-ever annual generation of 7,610.257 million units in FY 2011–12. It also achieved a record monthly generation of 1,222.170 million units in July 2024 and its highest daily generation of 39.572 million units on August 13, 2024, demonstrating its ability to harness favourable hydrological conditions.

SJVN Director (Personnel) Ajay Kumar Sharma commended the contributions of both present and former employees associated with the project and noted that the hydro power station has played an important role in driving development and economic growth in the surrounding region.

Rajeev Kapoor, Head of Project at NJHPS, expressed gratitude to the SJVN management, the Ministry of Power and the Government of Himachal Pradesh for their support. He also acknowledged the contributions of employees, contractors, contract workers, stakeholders and the local community in achieving the milestone.

The company said the generation of 150 BU of clean electricity represents significant environmental benefits by displacing large volumes of fossil fuel-based power and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, supporting India’s clean energy transition and climate commitments.
