
New Delhi: The Ministry of Steel organised a one-day event, Chintan Shivir, at Hotel Taj West End, Bengaluru, to deliberate on the future of India’s steel sector. The event brought together leaders from Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) under the Ministry of Steel to discuss strategic industry issues and chart a course for sustainable growth.
The event was graced by the virtual presence of the Minister of Steel and Heavy Industries HD Kumaraswamy, while the Minister of State for Steel and Heavy Industries Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma attended as the Chief Guest. The event also saw the participation of the Ministry of Steel's Secretary Sandeep Poundrik along with heads of CPSEs, emphasizing a collaborative approach to drive industry progress.
The Chintan Shivir featured a series of strategic sessions focusing on critical aspects such as iron ore utilization, the National Steel Policy 2025, specialty steel production, operational efficiency, and cost reduction strategies. The sessions were designed to encourage active participation and foster collaborative thinking among industry leaders.
Varma emphasized the significance of aligning with the National Steel Policy’s objectives, stating, “Let us work towards an Aatmanirbhar Bharat by achieving 300 MT of steel production capacity by 2030. Steel is vital for economic growth, and we must focus on increasing domestic production, optimizing iron ore resources, and producing specialty steels for key sectors.”
Poundrik highlighted the importance of continuous learning and operational excellence, adding, “This forum provides an opportunity to enhance operational efficiencies and foster innovation, ensuring sustainable and impactful growth.”
A key highlight of the event was the launch of the official website for *India Steel 2025*, which is scheduled to be held from April 24-26, 2025. The event is expected to provide a platform for industry stakeholders to showcase advancements and explore growth opportunities.
Additionally, 35 young managers from CPSEs were introduced as emerging industry leaders, entrusted with the responsibility of driving efficiency and cost optimization in the sector. This initiative underscores the Ministry’s commitment to nurturing talent and preparing the next generation of industry leaders.
The Chintan Shivir concluded with a unified commitment from CPSEs to strengthen India’s position in the global steel industry. The event marked a crucial step in uniting stakeholders, fostering strategic discussions, and laying the foundation for a resilient and competitive steel sector.
