New Delhi: Tata Power has announced on Thursday that its subsidiary, Tata Power Green Energy Limited, has received an LoA (Letter of Award) from Tata Power Mumbai Distribution to develop a 225 MW hybrid renewable project. The energy will be supplied to Tata Power Mumbai Distribution under a PPA (Power Purchase Agreement), valid for a period of 25 years from the scheduled commercial operation date, Tata Power said in an official statement.

The 225 MW RE project will take Tata Power's capacity to 3,782 MW

The company has won this capacity in a bid finalised recently by Tata Power Mumbai Distribution. The project is required to be commissioned within 18 months from the date of execution of the PPA. The plant is expected to generate about 700 MUs of energy per year and will annually offset approximately 700 Million Kg of CO2. Tata Power's renewable capacity will increase to 3,782 MW, out of which 2,637 MW is operational and 1,145 MW is under implementation, including 225 MW won under this LoA.

The backdrop

The news comes a month after Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited received an LoA (Letter of Award) from the MSEDCL (Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Co Ltd) to develop a 100 MW solar project in Maharashtra. Praveer Sinha, CEO & MD, Tata Power, had said at the time, "We are proud to announce that we have been awarded 100 MW solar project in Maharashtra, and are thankful to the Government of Maharashtra and the officials at MSEDCL for this opportunity. With this award, the cumulative capacity of renewables will be 3,557 MW."

Under this project, Tata Power will supply solar power to MSEDCL under a long-term PPA for 25 years from the scheduled date of commercial operation.
