New Delhi: THDC India Limited, a leading Miniratna PSU in power generation, has taken a major step towards strengthening renewable energy infrastructure by signing an MoU with the Government of Rajasthan. The agreement involves the development of two Pumped Storage Projects (PSPs) with a combined capacity of 1,600 MW, representing an estimated investment of Rs 8,800 crore.
The projects, Bisanpura PSP (800 MW) in Bundi district and Rampura PSP (800 MW) in Tonk district, will significantly enhance Rajasthan's renewable energy capabilities. The MoU has been signed during the Rising Rajasthan Global Investment Meet held on September 30, in the presence of Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma and Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore.
Speaking at the signing event, Chief Minister Sharma congratulated THDC India Limited's management and pledged his support for the projects' smooth execution. "These projects represent a key step in advancing Rajasthan's energy infrastructure, and we are committed to ensuring their timely completion," he stated.
While's THDC's Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) RK Vishnoi highlighted that the Bisanpura and Rampura PSPs will operate as off-stream, closed-loop systems, ensuring optimal water use and energy efficiency. The Bisanpura project will utilize water from the Gudha Dam, while the Rampura project will draw from the Bisalpur Reservoir. Vishnoi emphasized that these projects will not only support grid stability but also contribute to Rajasthan’s renewable energy goals by promoting sustainable energy solutions.
THDC India Limited has a proven track record in hydro project development, including the Tehri PSP, one of the largest in the country with a capacity of 1,000 MW. "The expertise we bring from past projects will ensure that Bisanpura and Rampura PSPs provide efficient energy storage and support sustainable economic growth," Vishnoi added.
THDC's Director (Technical) Bhupender Gupta further elaborated on the technical aspects of the projects. He noted that the PSPs would create substantial employment opportunities, generating over 2.5 million direct and indirect manpower hours, thereby benefiting local communities.
The MoU was signed by Bhupender Gupta of THDCIL and Ajitabh Sharma, Principal Secretary of Industries & Commerce, Government of Rajasthan, at a ceremony held in Delhi. This partnership underscores Rajasthan's commitment to expanding its renewable energy infrastructure while promoting long-term economic sustainability.
The collaboration is expected to play a vital role in achieving Rajasthan's renewable energy targets and advancing its position as a leader in sustainable development.
