This Govt portal gives retirees a second-innings job option

New Delhi: Retirement could now be less of a full stop for professionals aged 60 and above, with the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment’s SACRED portal offering a platform to find employment and consultancy opportunities based on their experience and work preferences.

The Senior Able Citizens for Re-Employment in Dignity (SACRED) portal has been created to connect senior citizens who want to remain professionally active with organisations looking for experienced manpower.

The initiative is particularly relevant for retired employees who may not want to return to a conventional full-time job but are willing to take up part-time, work-from-home, city-based or consultancy assignments.

From retirement to re-employment

The portal allows eligible senior citizens to create an online profile detailing their age, professional experience and preferred mode of work. Once registered, they can browse available opportunities and apply directly for suitable positions.

For retirees, this could open up a different kind of second innings — one where decades of experience can be put to use without necessarily returning to the pressures of a regular career.

A retired banker with expertise in finance, a former engineer with technical experience or a senior administrator with years of organisational knowledge, for instance, could explore opportunities where such experience remains relevant.

How retirees can use SACRED

Senior citizens can visit sacred.dosje.gov.in⁠ and select “Job Seeker Registration” or “Senior Citizen Signup.” After verifying their mobile number through OTP, they can fill in their personal and professional details and specify their preferred work arrangement.

They can then search the opportunities listed on the portal and apply for positions that match their profile.

Why the initiative matters

The government initiative comes at a time when many retired professionals are looking beyond retirement benefits and seeking ways to remain financially active, socially connected and professionally engaged.

For employers, the portal provides access to a pool of people with years of workplace experience. For retirees, it offers something equally valuable: the chance to continue contributing without necessarily returning to the traditional nine-to-five grind.

In that sense, SACRED is not simply another job portal. It signals a shift in how retirement can be viewed — not as the end of a career, but as an opportunity for a more flexible second innings.
