New Delhi: Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with BAIF Development Research Foundation to launch the Community Livelihood Enhancement and Sustainable Rural Development Programme under its CSR initiatives in Nagpur district.

The programme seeks to promote climate-resilient livelihoods while strengthening food and nutrition security among rural communities. It will focus on improving the annual incomes of 1,000 small and marginal farmers and is expected to benefit 4,800 families across 20 villages in Umred and Bhivapur blocks of Nagpur district.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Bikram Ghosh, Director (Human Resources), WCL, under the leadership of Dr. Hemant Sharad Pande, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, WCL. Lalit Prakash Tirkey, General Manager (CSR), WCL, and Shailesh Bhagat, Chief Programme Manager, BAIF Vidharbha, formally exchanged the agreement.

The initiative will adopt an integrated approach covering climate-smart agriculture, natural resource management, livestock development, clean energy adoption and women’s empowerment. These interventions are aimed at enhancing livelihood opportunities, strengthening community resilience and promoting sustainable use of local resources.

Through this partnership, WCL reaffirms its commitment to inclusive and sustainable rural development, strengthening village institutions and improving the quality of life of communities in its operational areas.
