New Delhi: State-run NHPC Limited has awarded the contract for the development of a 40 MW solar power project in Ganjam district of Odisha to Tata Power Solar, said the power PSU in a regulatory filing on Tuesday. "In compliance to Regulation 30 read with Schedule III of SEBI (LODR) Regulations, 2015, it is to inform that NHPC Limited has awarded an EPC contract to M/s Tata Power Solar Systems Limited on May 24, 2021 for development of 40 MW Solar Power Project in Ganjam District, Odisha for total amount of Rs. 188.19 crore," said NHPC.

NHPC's solar power project: Scope of work

The EPC contract includes the installation of a solar power plant on government land acquired by NHPC Limited for the said purpose through state Agency IDCO, along with the work of associated 220 KV transmission line for connectivity at 220 KV OPTCL Transmission System through Lilo Provision and comprehensive O&M for 10 years, the PSU said in the filing.

The backdrop

By the end of 2030, NHPC is looking to have 20,000 MW of installed capacity, the company announced last year. This will include its joint ventures (JVs) and subsidiaries. NHPC is looking to develop 500 MW floating solar power projects each in Odisha and Telangana and 50 MW projects in Kerala. All these projects are to be executed under the Ultra Mega Renewable Energy Power Parks (UMREPPs) scheme of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE). Along with SECI and NTPC, NHPC is also one of the implementing agencies for the ministry's RE projects.
