New Delhi/Faridabad: In view of the coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis that has hit the entire world and the nation, the state-run Miniratna power PSU, NHPC Limited has earmarked Rs 4.5 crore to fight the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in the country. The company said in a statement that the decision has been taken during a meeting chaired by NHPC Limited's Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) AK Singh. The meeting was attended by Director (Projects) Ratish Kumar, Director (Personnel) NK Jain, Director (Finance) MK Mittal, Director (Technical) Janardan Choudhary and heads of Power Stations, Projects and Regional Offices of NHPC Limited through the video conferencing.

Management of NHPC stated "NHPC stands in steadfast support of the nation and the Government of India in this moment of crisis. We will also help the local people near our Power Stations and Projects by providing all possible support." NHPC operates power stations and projects in remote and inaccessible areas across the country.

A total of Rs 4.5 crore (including Rs 1.36 crore contribution by employees) has been allotted/envisaged for carrying various activities in making all efforts to help people in the vicinity of NHPC Power Stations or Projects to fight coronavirus (COVID-19).

NHPC Limited has also developed 40 bedded quarantine centre with attached bathroom managed with government authorities, Reasi, Jammu & Kashmir (J&K), 17 bedded quarantine centre at Dulhasti Power Station, Distt Kishtwar J&K and 10 bedded quarantine centre with attached bathroom and required accessories at Uri-I Power station, Distt Baramulla J&K. All efforts are being made to develop at least some quarantine rooms and beds at each location. NHPC hospitals and dispensaries have been instructed to provide 24 hours of OPD services to all. Distribution of rice, flour, biscuit, soap, sanitizer, liquid hand wash, gloves, mask etc., has already started under CSR-SD (Corporate Social Responsibility-Sustainable Development) from some of NHPC locations with effect from March 25.
