NHPC organises training programme on engineering geology

New Delhi: NHPC Limited is organising a three-day training programme on "Role of Engineering Geology in River Valley & Infrastructure Projects" from July 10 to July 12 at its Corporate Office, Faridabad. The programme was inaugurated on July 10 by Balraj Joshi, Chairman and Managing Director, NHPC, in the presence of Nikhil Kumar Jain, Director (Personnel), Janardan Choudhary, Director (Technical) and other seniors officers from NHPC.

Speaking at the inaugural session, Joshi stressed upon the paramount importance of geological investigations in hydroelectric and infrastructure projects for stability and sustainability of engineering structures. He also emphasised that time has come to continuously update the existing theories and practices of understanding the behaviour of rockmass based on progressive knowledge gathered over the years at challenging ground conditions.

This training programme has been conceptualised to provide an insight to young professionals about the importance of investigation and construction stage geological studies in River Valley & Infrastructure Projects and to disseminate the knowledge gained by NHPC while negotiating geological & geotechnical issues during execution of hydropower projects over the years. Around 25 young geologists and engineers from various organisations, as well as from NHPC, are participating in the training programme.
