New Delhi: NTPC Limited has declared its Dulanga coal mine, located in Odisha, commercially operational from October 1, 2020. In a regulatory filing to the stock exchanges on Monday, NTPC said, "… we wish to inform that based on achievement of approved norms and due approval; Dulanga Coal Mine of NTPC Limited, having an ultimate peak rated annual capacity of 7 Million Tonnes Per Annum, is declared on commercial operation w.e.f. 01.10.2020." Situated in Sundergarh district of Odisha, the Dulanga coal mine was allotted by the government to NTPC to meet the fuel requirement of its 2 x 800 MW Darlipali Super Thermal Power Plant.
Dulanga Mine has block area of 6.54 Sq Km, geological reserves of 196 MMT and Mineable Reserves of 152 MMT and ultimate production capacity of 7 MMTPA.
A total of 10 coal mines have been allotted to NTPC by the government for captive use — Dulanga, Pakri-Barwadih, Chatti-Bariatu and Chatti- Bariatu (South), Kerandari, Dulanga, Talaipalli, Banai, Bhalumuda, Mandakini-B and Badam. NTPC plans to produce about 103 million metric tonnes (MMT) of coal per annum from these mines when all the mines reach their peak-rated capacity.
Out of these, Parkin-Barwadih, Dulanga and Talaipalli are commercially operational, while Chatti-Bariatu and Kerandari are in advanced stages of development. The company is looking to produce 15 MMT of coal in FY21 as against 11.15 MMT produced in FY20.
In Odisha, NTPC has currently 3,000 MW Talcher Super Thermal and 460 MW Talcher Thermal operating power stations in District Angul of Odisha. The 1,600 MW Darlipali STPP was declared commercially operational in February this year and 1,320 MW (2x660MW) Talcher Thermal Power Project Stage-III is also in the pipeline.
