PDIL distributes cloth-bags on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti

New Delhi: Projects and Development India Limited (PDIL), a Miniratna PSU under the Department of Fertilizers (DoF), celebrated Gandhi Jayanti by organising a programme on plastic waste management. During the celebration, a programme was organised on the theme of “Plastic Waste Management” as part of the “Swachhta Hi Sewa" campaign. Hundreds of cotton cloth bags made and marketed by Pavithara Swasahaya Sangha, women’s self-help groups of Bangalore, were distributed to the employees of PDIL and Department of Fertilizers (DOF) in the presence of Secretary (Fertilizers) Chhabilendra Roul (IAS) in the programme.

On the occasion, Joint Secretary (Fertilizers) Gurveen Sidhu (IAS), Economic Advisor Lalsanglur and other senior officers of the DoF, Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers were welcomed by PDIL's Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Partha Sarthi Sen Sharma. PDIL's Director (Finance) DS Sudhakar Ramaiah, other senior officials and a large number of PDIL employees attended the program.

Cloth bags will empower women

Speaking on the occasion, Sharma stated that the distribution of cloth bags will empower women. He also stressed on the need for plastic waste management and exhorted PDIL to develop technology for the disposal of plastic and come up with alternatives for single-use plastic. The PDIL CMD thanked the government for clearing simultaneous execution of four large scale Ammonia Urea Fertilizer Projects and expressed happiness on PDIL's record financial performance during FY 2018-19 for achieving the highest-ever profit after tax, highest-ever turnover, highest-ever dividend to government and highest-ever revenue from operations.

Man of Action

Secretary (Fertilizers) Chhabilendra Roul (IAS) paid rich tributes to the 'Father of Nation' on his 150th birth anniversary. He described Mahatma Gandhi as a Man of Action. He fondly recalled the adoption of Gandhiji's principles of cleanliness by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He stressed the need for the invention of low-cost material as alternative to single-use plastic, empowerment of local urban bodies and panchayats to effectively deal with the menace of plastic and the need for conversion of biodegradable material to compost for use as manure.

A talk-cum-educative presentation

A lecture was delivered by Jawaharlal Nehru University's (JNU) Professor Dr KK Sharma on "Say no to single-use plastic." Secretary (Fertilizers), other dignitaries and officials of DoF, PDIL CMD, officials & employees also performed “Shramddan" by cleaning areas in and around PDIL office.
