New Delhi: Amit Banerjee is set to be the next Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of BEML Limited, a Miniratna Defence PSU under the Ministry of Defence. The Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB), the organisation responsible for making top-level appointments in PSUs, has picked Banerjee for the post of CMD of BEML Limited on April 26. Banerjee is currently serving as Director (Rail & Metro Business) in the same organisation. Since the superannuation of former BEML CMD DK Hota on January 31, BEML Limited's Director (Mining & Construction) MV Rajasekhar has been holding the additional charge of the CMD's post.
Banerjee has been selected for the post of CMD of BEML from a list of two candidates who were interviewed by the selection panel. The other candidate was from NMDC Limited. Prior to his current assignment, Banerjee was serving as Executive Director (Rail & Metro) in the company.
Banerjee is a graduate in Mechanical Engineering from IIT (BHU), Varanasi, and he joined BEML as Assistant Engineer in the year 1984. In his professional career spanning over three decades in BEML, Banerjee has worked in R&D and manufacturing functions. His experience involves the design and development of various products like SSEMU, Metro cars, Catenary Maintenance Vehicle etc.
Under his guidance, his team received the "Raksha Mantri Award" for the design and development of Austenitic Stainless Steel EMU & Intermediate metro cars for Delhi Metro. Banerjee has played a significant role in phased indigenisation of rolling stock aggregates.
As CMD of BEML, Banerjee will be the Chief Executive of the corporation and be accountable to the board of directors, the government and shareholders. He will also be responsible for the efficient functioning of the corporation for achieving its corporate objectives and performance parameters.
