PESB picks RK Tyagi for Power Grid’s Director (Operations) post

New Delhi: RK Tyagi is set to be the next Director (Operations) of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL), a PSU under the Ministry of Power. He has been recommended for the post by the Public Enterprises Selection Board Panel (PESB), the head-hunter body for PSUs, on Friday. He is currently serving as Executive Director in the same Maharatna Power PSU.

Tyagi has been recommended for the post of Director (Operations) of Power Grid from a list of nine candidates, who were shortlisted and interviewed by the PESB panel in its selection meeting held on April 29. A total of nine candidates including Tyagi, who was on the list were from Power Grid and one each from Power System Operation Corporation Limited (POSOCO), NTPC Limited and Indian Railways.

Tyagi is an Engineering Graduate. He completed the Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering from Panjab Engineering College and a Masters of Engineering (M Tech in Electricity Studies) from IIT Delhi. He has also done a Fulbright Fellowship Programme from the Tepper School of Business, Carnegie Mellon University. He has been serving as Executive Director in Power Grid since November 2020.

New role and responsibilities of RK Tyagi

As Director (Operations) of Power Grid, Tyagi will be a member of the Board of Directors and will report to Chairman & Managing Director (CMD). He will be responsible to lay down the operations philosophy of the corporation overseeing the operation of the company's transmission assets and adopting technological advances for a high degree of reliability efficiency and sustained performance, promoting indigenisation under the Atma Nirbhar Scheme of the government.
