PM gives devices to divyangjan in the biggest ALIMCO camp

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi distributed aids & assistive devices to the senior citizens under "Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana" (RVY) and to divyangjan under ADIP scheme at a 'Samajik Adhikarita Shivir' and a mega distribution camp organised by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment and ALIMCO at Parade Ground, Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh) on Saturday.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, It was the biggest ever distribution camp conducted under RVY and ADIP schemes in all terms like the number of beneficiaries covered, the number of appliances and value of aids and appliances. On the occasion, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath was also present as the guest of honour.

The camp has been inaugurated by the Prime Minister in the presence of Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Thaawarchand Gehlot, Deputy Chief Ministers of Uttar Pradesh, Keshav Prasad Maurya and Dr Dinesh Sharma and other dignitaries. Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities' (DEPwD) Secretary Shakuntala D Gamlin and other senior officers from the Ministry and the government of Uttar Pradesh were also present.

In this mega camp, 56,905 numbers of daily living assistive aids and devices of the different type for various categories have been distributed free of cost among 10,406 divyangjan under ADIP scheme and 16,468 senior citizens (belonging to BPL category) under Rashtriya Vayoshree Yoajna Scheme.

With a view to maximising intended benefits to senior citizens and divyangjan in the district of Prayagraj, ALIMCO, a PSU under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, was ordered to conduct assessment camps. Accordingly, the camps were conducted with full support from the district administration. The assessment camps of senior citizens were conducted at block level 20 locations, five municipal limits of Prayagraj and one gram Panchayat in Prayagraj district, in which a total of 26,874 beneficiaries were registered.

In ALIMCO mega camp, 56,905 numbers of daily living assistive aids and devices of the different type for various categories have been distributed free of cost among 10,406 divyangjan under ADIP scheme and 16,468 senior citizens (belonging to BPL category) under Rashtriya Vayoshree Yoajna Scheme. The total value of the aids and assistive devices is approx. Rs 19.37 crore.

The objective of the event was to facilitate and propagate information among general public particularly to divyangjan and senior citizens belonging to BPL category of the district about their issues of day-to-day living and how to generate other avenues for their socio-economic development. These include barrier-free movement, aid & appliances needed for various types of disabilities, vocational training for self-employment, access to easy loans for entrepreneurship and employment opportunity.
