New Delhi: All the Public sector enterprises have stood up to the crisis that has shaken entire India along with the world. However, contribution by some is a relentless effort. PowerGrid, for example, has so far reached to 1.85 Lakh beneficiaries situated in 276 locations across India with its free ration distribution campaign. In this CSR drive, the Maharatna power PSU has so far distributed as much as 1562 metric tonnes of free ration. These figures that have been provided to PSU Watch from PowerGrid campaign team sums up the campaign reach-out data till April 28. The mission is marching on.
Meanwhile, it is important to mention here that on March 30 PowerGrid had announced financial support of 200 crores to 'PM CARES Fund' under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative. Apart from this, POWERGRID has also been distributing food in slum areas to help the needy in such difficult times. The labourers and contractual workers at transmission/construction sites are also being provided with masks, soaps, sanitizers, packed food items, grocery items and medical support in all POWERGRID Sub-stations in the country. As part of preparedness due to outbreak of COVID-19, a backup plan has been prepared for manning all the Sub-stations in the country to ensure uninterrupted power supply.
PowerGrid is a state-owned electric utility company headquartered in Gurugram. The company transmits about 50 percent of the total power generated in India through its transmission network. Its former subsidiary company Power System Operation Corporation Limited (POSOCO) handles power management for the national grid and all state transmission utilities.
