New Delhi: Roshni Nadar Malhotra, the chairperson of HCL Technologies, is officially India's richest woman according to the 'Kotak Wealth Hurun-Leading Wealthy Women' List 2020 released on Tuesday. The second to Roshni Nadar is Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw of Biocon, followed by Leena Gandhi Tewari of USV, one of the top old leading healthcare industry & pharmaceutical group of companies in India. The list has been prepared by Kotak Wealth Management, a division of Kotak Mahindra Bank, and Hurun India. 38-year-old Roshni Nadar had succeeded her father Shiv Nadar in July only. In 2019, Roshni was ranked 54th on the Forbes World's 100 Most Powerful Women list. Roshni Nadar was ranked the richest woman in India in the IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich List as well that was published in 2019.
Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw is the wealthiest self-made woman on the list, which features eight dollar billionaires and 38 women with a wealth of Rs 1,000 crore and above. The listing is based on the net worth of women as on September 30, 2020, and focuses exclusively on women who play an active role in their family business, entrepreneurs and professionals. Roshni, the only child of Shiv and Kiran Nadar is an alumnus of Northwestern University majoring in Communication with a focus on Radio/TV/Film. She graduated with a Masters in Business Administration having a focus on Social Enterprise Management and Strategy from the Kellogg School of Management.
With 32 women, Mumbai is the city of choice for India's wealthiest women, followed by New Delhi (20) and Hyderabad (10). With 34 and 20 listers respectively, the state of Maharashtra and Delhi is where the majority of the Kotak Wealth Hurun – Leading Wealthy Women List 2020 reside.
The 'Kotak Wealth Hurun-Leading Wealthy Women' report is a data-driven attempt to understand wealth creation among Indian women and celebrate the success of the top 100 entrepreneurs, professionals and businesswomen in India. The average wealth of the women on this list is about Rs 2,725 crore. The threshold for the ranking is Rs 100 crore. Nineteen women from the same list have made it to the Hurun India Rich List 2020 that features overall riches in India while six women from the list have made to the Hurun Global Rich List 2020.
