Vishakapatnam: Due to the sharp fall in demand RINL-Visakhapatnam Steel Plant has reduced its production from 100 percent to 70 percent. The PSU is taking various steps to tackle the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. From thermal scans to shifting of an age-old market, social distancing and creating awareness through videos, they are trying everything.

Thermal scanning

More than 100 numbers of Thermal scanners have been provided at various places inside the plant, administration building, Visakha Steel General Hospital and at all the office buildings situated outside the plant. Employees are being scanned at all entry points round the clock in G, A, B, and C shifts. More number of thermal scanners are under the procurement process.

Social distancing

"Social Distancing" is given top priority. Focus is given on the places where the likely congregation of people will take places such as Cooperative stores, grocery and medical shops in all the shopping complexes and market places like Ryhtu bazaar and vegetable markets. The Rhytu bazaar is shifted to a larger school compound where enough space is available to maintain the social distancing while purchasing vegetables. Marking has been done to guide people to stand, wait and go in the queue to purchase the goods.

RINL manpower deployment has been staggered and wherever possible work from home is considered to comply with the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and District Administration

RINL's Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) PK Rath while addressing the RINL collective on the occasion of Ugadi festival also appealed everyone to follow social distancing through a video message, the first of its kind of an initiative through social media.

In addition to that, a video containing a piece of expert advice by VSGH's Senior specialist Dr Naveen Kumar VSGH is also aired into social media explaining people about the precautions and safety measures to be taken in the fight against COVID-19.
