Akshay Shrikant Bapat appointed as Director (Technical) of MCL

New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the proposal of the Ministry of Coal for appointment of Akshay Shrikant Bapat as Director (Technical) of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL).

According to an order issued from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), he has been appointed to the post for a period with effect from the date of his assumption of charge of the post till the date of his superannuation i.e. November 30, 2024, or until further orders' whichever is earlier.

Earlier, PSU Watch had reported when Bapat was recommended for the post of Director (Technical) of MCL by the PESB panel on February 28. He was selected for the post from a list of eight candidates, who were interviewed by the PESB selection panel.

As Director (Technical) of MCL, Bapat will be a member of the Board of Directors and will report to Chairman and Managing Director (CMD). He will be responsible for operation of mines and also of field activities, technical functions and safety of mines.

MCL is Miniratna PSU under the Ministry of Coal and one of the major coal producing company in India. It is one of the eight subsidiaries of Coal India Limited. MCL was carved out of South Eastern Coalfields Limited in 1992 with its headquarters at Sambalpur.
