Dr Komal Kapoor takes charge as CMD of ECIL

New Delhi: The Chief Executive of Nuclear Fuel Complex (NFC) Dr Komal Kapoor has assumed the additional charge as Chairman & Managing Director (C&MD) and Director (Technical) of Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL) on Wednesday.

Dr Kapoor has taken over the additional charge of ECIL's CMD post after the company's former CMD Dr Anesh Sharma was relieved of his responsibilities to join the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

A distinguished scientist and metallurgical engineer, Dr Kapoor joined the 33rd batch of the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) Training School in 1989 before beginning his career at NFC, where he has served in various capacities for more than three decades.

He holds a doctorate in Metallurgical Engineering and Materials Science from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay and is an Adjunct Professor at Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI), Mumbai, besides serving as a guest faculty member at the University of Hyderabad.

As head of three nuclear fuel cycle facilities, Dr Kapoor has played a key role in India's nuclear power programme. He is overseeing the development of a major greenfield project at Kota, Rajasthan, aimed at meeting the fuel requirements of upcoming nuclear reactors in the country. His work has focused on improving nuclear fuel quality, enhancing reactor fuel performance and strengthening radiological safety standards.

Dr Kapoor has also led several research collaborations with national and international institutions in the field of nuclear engineering. His contributions have earned him multiple honours, including the NMD Young Metallurgist Award from the Ministry of Steel. He has authored more than 100 research papers published in national and international journals and conference proceedings.
