Prior to his appointment in the Ministry of Power, Tripathi has held various important positions such as MD and CEO of Digital India Corporation (DIC), CEO of India Semiconductor Mission and CEO of MyGov.in.

Additionally, Tripathi has held important assignments in his cadre state, Madhya Pradesh, where he worked extensively in areas of e-governance, energy reforms, IT-driven citizen services, and rural development. His reputation as a tech-savvy administrator has often been highlighted, particularly for initiatives that leveraged digital tools to improve governance efficiency.

Tripathi will take charge as SECI MD from MNRE Secretary Santosh Kumar Sarangi (IAS), who is holding the additional charge of the post since RP Gupta exit from the post.

SECI, a PSU under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, plays a pivotal role in the implementation of India’s renewable energy projects, especially solar and wind. SECI has been instrumental in driving India’s renewable capacity addition through competitive bidding, project development, and investment facilitation.

With India targeting 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, SECI’s role has become increasingly strategic. The appointment of Tripathi, with his combined experience in power, renewables, and digital governance, is expected to give a further push to SECI’s mandate in project execution and sectoral reforms.

Tripathi’s leadership at SECI comes at a time when India is aggressively pursuing its energy transition roadmap, focusing on solar parks, hybrid projects, and emerging sectors like green hydrogen and battery storage. His policy background, coupled with on-ground administrative experience, is expected to help SECI navigate both investment challenges and the scaling up of large renewable projects.
