New Delhi: Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) has announced the appointment of Om Prakash Sinha as Director (Exploration). The appointment, approved by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, is effective from July 14, and will continue until his superannuation on December 31, 2027, or until further orders.
With a distinguished career spanning over 37 years at ONGC, Sinha brings a wealth of experience in exploration and production (E&P) activities. A Petroleum Engineering graduate from the Indian School of Mines (ISM), Dhanbad, he has served the company in multiple leadership roles across exploration, field development, and reservoir management.
Sinha has been instrumental in advancing ONGC’s reservoir engineering practices—from seismic studies to simulation, and the implementation of field development and long-term production plans. His expertise spans the design and execution of Improved Oil Recovery (IOR) schemes and Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) processes, having led simulation studies and reservoir strategies across both onshore and offshore fields.
As the former Chief of ONGC’s Institute of Reservoir Studies in Ahmedabad, he played a key role in formulating EOR programmes aimed at boosting production efficiency. In alignment with India’s energy transition goals, he has also spearheaded conceptual projects on Carbon Capture, Utilisation, and Storage (CCUS/CCS) to help ONGC progress toward its Net-Zero targets.
Sinha is also an active member of professional organizations such as the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and the Society of Petroleum Geophysicists (SPG). ONGC has confirmed that he holds no familial relationships with any other directors and is not under any regulatory restrictions from holding office.
