New Delhi: NTPC Limited has appointed Pankaj Kumar Gupta as the Head of Project at its Kanti Thermal Power Station in Bihar. Gupta, who currently serves as Chief General Manager, has assumed charge of the position, bringing with him over 34 years of experience in the power sector.

A seasoned power sector professional, Gupta joined NTPC in 1991 as an Executive Trainee and has since held several important assignments across the organisation. Over the course of his career, he has contributed significantly to project engineering, mechanical systems, energy transition, environmental management, and strategic planning.

Prior to taking over as Head of Project at NTPC Kanti, Gupta served at various NTPC locations and departments, including NTPC Kahalgaon, the Corporate Centre, the Energy Transition & Policy Group, and most recently at NTPC Meja, where he handled several key responsibilities.

Gupta holds a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from University of Lucknow and an M.Tech in Applied Mechanics from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi. He has also participated in numerous national and international programmes focused on leadership development, clean energy technologies, sustainability, project management, and emerging energy solutions.

Welcoming the new assignment, Gupta said that NTPC Kanti has established a strong reputation in power generation, environmental stewardship, and community development. He expressed confidence in taking the station to greater heights while maintaining the highest standards of operational excellence and safety.

“We shall further strengthen our CSR initiatives, including the Girl Empowerment Mission, and enhance our engagement with local communities. With the collective efforts of Team Kanti, I am confident that we will set new benchmarks in performance, sustainability and social responsibility,” he said.

With an installed capacity of 390 MW, NTPC Kanti is among Bihar’s key power-generating stations and plays a crucial role in meeting the growing electricity demand of the state and the eastern region. The station has consistently delivered strong performance in operational efficiency, safety, environmental management, and stakeholder engagement.

The project is also actively engaged in community development through various Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, including the Girl Empowerment Mission (GEM), education, healthcare, and community welfare programmes. In addition, NTPC Kanti continues to promote environmental sustainability through plantation drives, water conservation efforts, and other green initiatives.

The management and employees of NTPC Kanti extended a warm welcome to Gupta and expressed confidence that his extensive experience and leadership will further strengthen the station’s operational and social development initiatives during his tenure.
