
New Delhi: State-run telecom operator Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) has announced the appointment of Papa Sudhakara Rao (ITS) as its Director (Technical). The appointment will be effective from the date he assumes charge of the post or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
The appointment has been approved by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Ministry of Communications, as per an official communication dated May 7, 2025.
Sudhakararao Papa currently serves as Director (Enterprise) at Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL). He has been named to the MTNL board in place of Dr Kalyan Sagar Nippani, who held dual responsibility as Director (HR) at BSNL and Director (Technical) at MTNL.
Rao is an alumni of Andhra University College of Engineering Visakhapatnam of 1993 batch. He is a B.E. Graduate in Electronics & Telecommunications securing 1st class with Distinction. He has been selected for Indian Telecommunication Services (ITS) in the year 1994. He entered the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) as ADET in February 1996. He is specialized in both Switching & Transmission in the field of Telecommunication. His Professional Enhancement includes Post Graduation in Public Policy & Management (PGPPM) in the year 2007 from Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore & Syracuse University, NY, USA.
He has over 27 years of working experience at field and circle level in the Telecom services ranging widely from Planning, Development, Installation, Operation and Maintenance, and Commissioning of Core and Access Networks, Transmission Systems and Wireless systems such as GSM, WCDMA, NGN and LTE Equipment.
