Praveen M. Khanooja (IA&AS) gets 3 months extension as EIL CMD

New Delhi: The Government of India has extended the additional charge of the post of Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Engineers India Limited (EIL) to Praveen M. Khanooja (IA&AS), Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG), for a further period of three months with effect from June 1.

Khanooja has been holding the additional charge of EIL's CMD post since the superannuation of Vartika Shukla on February 28.

The information has been shared by EIL in a regulatory filing to the stock exchanges on Wednesday. According to the company's filing, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG), through its letter dated June 2, 2026, informed that the Competent Authority has approved the extension of the additional charge arrangement.

As per the order, Khanooja will continue to hold the additional charge of the CMD post for three months from June 1, or until the appointment of a regular incumbent to the position, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

The latest extension follows an earlier government order issued in March 2026 assigning the additional charge of the top post at EIL to Khanooja. With the fresh approval, the arrangement will continue while the government finalises the appointment of a full-time Chairman and Managing Director for the engineering consultancy and EPC major.

Khanooja, an Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, has been overseeing the affairs of EIL in addition to his responsibilities in the ministry. EIL is a leading engineering consultancy and engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) company operating in the hydrocarbon and allied sectors.

Khanooja, a 1994-batch officer of the Indian Audit and Accounts Service (IA\&AS), holds a B. Tech in Chemical Engineering and an M. Tech in Management & Systems.
