

New Delhi: Ramesh Chandra Mohapatra has assumed charge as Director (Technical) – Operations at South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL). He has also been given the additional charge of Director (Technical) – Project & Planning.

Following his assumption of charge, Mohapatra held a review meeting with Heads of Departments (HODs) and Area General Managers to take stock of key operational priorities and ongoing activities across the company. Officers and employees of SECL also extended their congratulations and best wishes to him on taking over the new responsibilities.
Mohapatra brings with him over three decades of experience in the mining sector, with expertise spanning mine operations, project management and strategic leadership. Prior to joining SECL as Director (Technical), he was serving as General Manager of Jhanjra Area at Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL).
An alumnus of IIT-BHU, Mohapatra holds a degree in Mining Engineering, completed in 1990, along with an MBA in Human Resource Management. He is also a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India).
He began his professional career at Surakachhar Colliery in SECL's Korba Area and has since held several key positions, including Colliery Manager, Project Officer, Additional General Manager and General Manager. During his career, he has led several major underground and opencast mining operations of Coal India Limited.

His experience includes production enhancement, adoption of modern mining technologies, resolution of land and rehabilitation issues, and engagement with local communities. He has also represented the Indian coal sector at international platforms, including the African Mining Indaba in Cape Town, South Africa, and industrial cooperation discussions in the Czech Republic.
