New Delhi: Sanjay Kumar Verma is set to be next Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of MECON Limited, a PSU under the Ministry of Steel. He has been recommended for the post by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) panel on Wednesday. Presently, he is serving as Director (Commercial) in the same organisation.

Verma has been recommended for the post of CMD of MECON from a list of three candidates, who were interviewed by the PESB selection panel in its selection meeting held on January 10. All the candidates, who were on the list, were from MECON.

Verma is an Engineering Graduate. He did his B.Sc (Mechanical Engineering) in 1988 from BIT Sindri. He holds extensive knowledge and experience in the field of blast furnaces. He played an instrumental role in successful running of more than 19 blast furnaces. Verma has been spearheading his campaign to bring the Indian Blast Furnaces as par with global standards and even excelling over them.

Apart from being a true technologist, he also holds experience in marketing activities. Under his leadership, MECON has successfully galvanized the business development, marketing and contracting activities resulted in substantial business procurement growth and signing of number of MoUs with strategic partners.

Verma has also enriched the engineering and academic fraternity by his numerous publications published over a range of journals and seminar compendiums. He is a recipient of many accolades from the Industry including Award of Excellence from Indian Institute of Metals and “Bharat Ratna Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya Life time Achievement Award ” from IE(I).
