Fine for a cancellation ranges between Rs 2,300 and Rs 4,600, to be determined by the ticket's cost and if the cancellation has been made a week prior to or after the departure

Mumbai: In what is one of harshest penalties in the country's airline industry, Jet Airways Ltd has rolled out a new fee structure on Thursday for changes or cancellations on tickets. The fine for a cancellation ranges between Rs 2,300 and Rs 4,600, to be determined by the ticket's cost and if the cancellation has been made a week prior to or after departure.

Changing tickets will cost Rs 1,500-4300

The penalty charged for a change of ticket will range between Rs 1,500 and Rs 4,300. What's more is that those Jet flyers booking inexpensive tickets months in advance face losing the full amount paid for the ticket if the cancel.

Meanwhile, low-cost carriers like IndiGo and Spice Jet charge a flat Rs 3,000 penalty for cancellations, which is considerably lower than Jet.

Based on the fare, the carrier's economy class is divided into five groups – Lite, the lowest, Deal, Saver, Classic and Flex.

Hefty fine on cancellation

Under the new structure, Jet will levy a refund fee of Rs 4,600 for Lite or Deal passengers who have made cancellations within seven days before departure. If passengers need to make changes to their tickets, the charge is Rs 4,300. For cancellations made beyond a week from departure, the refund for a Lite fare is Rs 3,800, while the change fee is Rs 3,500.

Jet's fares for lower categories like Lite, Deal, and Saver are only available when the tickets are purchased at least a month beforehand, a travel agent said.

For the expensive Flex fares offer a refund fee of Rs 2,800, while a change fee of Rs 2,300 will be levied. If changes are made within a week before to departure in the higher-category Saver fare, the refund fee is Rs 4,300, while change fee is Rs 3,800.
