RSP bags ‘Gold Award’ at Global Communication Conclave

Rourkela: Steel Authority of India's (SAIL) Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has bagged the prestigious 'Gold award' for 'Internal Communication Campaign' in the 14th Global Communication Conclave organised by Public Relations Council of India (PRCI) organised at Bengaluru recently. The theme of the conclave was 'PR Beyond 2020'.
RSP's Chief General Manager (Public Relations) & Chief of Communications Ramendra Kumar received the award in a glittering award ceremony, which was attended by a galaxy of PR, Marketing & Media professionals from across the country and beyond.

RSP's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dipak Chattaraj expressed his immense happiness over the award and emphasised on the importance of a robust internal communication mechanism for creating cohesion amongst the employees. He lauded the collective for internalising a communication ethos which is effective, visible and impacting.

It is worth mentioning here that since taking over the reins of RSP, Chattaraj has adopted a multi-pronged approach so as to reach out to every employee and involve him/her in the process of growth and development. Right from large scale communication interventions, focussed group interactions, distribution of brochures, outdoor publicity, audio-visual communications, intranet portal, e-mails, mass awareness campaigns to print, electronics and social media – every tool of communication was harnessed so as to optimise the reach and result.
Massive communication campaigns were taken to strengthen the safety culture in the Plant, while a number of initiatives were launched specifically for the women employees.

Recently a new initiative, which has taken the communication endeavours to another level, was launched. A link 'CEO Connect' has been given in the RSP intranet portal. Any employee can log in from any PC connected with the plant intranet and give suggestions pertaining to any aspect of the functioning of the Plant like: production, productivity, maintenance, safety, cost optimisation, etc.. The suggestions or ideas given by the employees are being reviewed and replied by the CEO himself making the intervention singular in every sense of the term.

These array of initiatives not only facilitated a free flow of information amongst the employees but have successfully bridged the gap between minds and fostered a strong connection between the organisation and the internal stakeholders, i.e. the employees.
